Step Out of the Momentum of Becoming and Into the Sacred Practice of Gathering
The aspens are beginning to turn their amazing golden colors here in Boulder Canyon, and the nights are growing cooler. As the light begins to change, the land carries that unmistakable feeling of summer slowly letting go. The release is beginning.
Autumn is the season of receiving the bounty and of pausing long enough to recognize what has actually ripened. So much of our lives are oriented toward the next thing: the next healing, the next achievement, the next becoming. Harvest asks us to turn around and look at the field we have already tended. What has grown in you this year? What strength has been earned? What love has deepened? What wisdom is ready to be gathered and brought home?
Growing up on a farm in Nebraska, I remember this time of year viscerally in my body. By late summer and early autumn, the brilliant greens had begun fading into gold and brown; the wheat had been cut, and the corn stalks were drying and bending back toward the earth. Harvest was always an intense time—were the stalks dry enough? Was the wheat ready? Would the rain come, or worse, hail, with the storms that seemed to gather almost every afternoon around three? There were long, hot, dusty days and a constant watchfulness toward the sky.
And then, when the final field was cut—an exhale.
The urgency gave way to a particular dry, sun-baked beauty across the fields. After all the planting, tending, worrying, growing, and gathering, you could feel both the people and the land beginning to settle. The work of becoming was giving way to the season of receiving.
Our Annual Fall Harvest Retreat is an invitation to enter that same rhythm. For four days, we step away from the momentum of ordinary life and into a slower, more intentional relationship with ourselves and the land. We’ll explore these questions not only through the mind, but through the body—through nature, somatic practice, Classical Tantra, ceremony, sacred medicine, community, nourishment, and deep rest, all held within the grounded and intentional container of Boulder Canyon Retreat Center.
Let's put down "doing" and getting somewhere, but rather Harvest, Gather, Receive, Assimilate and Distill - it's about gathering yourself back in—recognizing what this year has already grown within you, receiving what is nourishing, and honoring what you've already put so much intention and effort into. Then, we'll be with the release. The way the gold colored aspen leaves release from the branches
THREE PLACES REMAIN IN THE HARVEST CIRCLE
October 1–4 · Boulder Canyon Retreat Center
If you’ve been feeling the pull to step out of the momentum of your life—to come back into your body, reconnect with the natural world, or consciously mark a transition—this may be your moment to come to the mountain.
Four days held by the rich, gold changing aspens, the flow of the river, the heat of the fire, and a small circle of people (I cap at 12) willing to step away from the noise, listen more deeply and heal within community.
If you feel the pull, reach out. I’m happy to connect with you personally, hear what’s calling you, and answer any questions about whether Harvest feels like the right experience for you.
