Meet the Team Behind Boulder Canyon Retreat Center

Hello BCRC community,

We’re glad to introduce Shane and the people who work alongside him to carry the vision of Boulder Canyon Retreat Center (BCRC). We support Shane, and we support you.

Whether you’re booking a session, preparing for a retreat, planning your visit, or just want to get in touch, someone on this team can help. We each bring different experience and share one aim: a community where people feel seen and cared for, and connected to themselves, to each other, and to this land.

The people behind BCRC

Shane Young, Founder

Nature-based healer, somatic psychotherapist and ceremonial guide

With more than 20 years in the healing arts, Shane combines somatic psychotherapy, plant medicine, Yoga Science and earth-based ceremony to support healing and change. His work draws on Sri Vidya Tantra Yoga and Indigenous wisdom traditions, and respects the relationship between the body, the natural world and the sacred.

Through embodied practice and the wisdom of the elements, Shane helps people explore the stories of their past and find new possibilities for vitality, connection and meaningful change.

Nancy Jarosi, Client Relations and Experience Manager

Nancy has more than 30 years of administrative experience in the legal and medical fields, and she brings a careful, detail-minded approach to looking after guests.

Her own exploration of medicine journeys, somatic embodiment and secure attachment taught her how much it matters to feel welcomed, seen and respected. She enjoys the small details that make each person’s stay comfortable and personal. Away from the coordination work, you’ll likely find her hiking, biking or out enjoying Colorado.

Joe Yung, Land and Property Stewardship

Joe is one of the steady hands behind the beauty of BCRC. He looks after the trees and grounds, the buildings and the gathering spaces, so the mountain sanctuary stays welcoming and well kept.

He respects nature and brings practical care and a real appreciation for the energy of this place. Joe also helps guests with transportation, including airport arrivals and departures.

Makenzie Darling, Director of Marketing and Community Development

Makenzie guides BCRC’s communications, outreach and storytelling. She shapes our strategic direction, runs our Instagram account and looks after the White Eagle Awakening community, helping our vision reach more people as the community grows.

Shelley Kappel, BCRC's Retreat Mama, smiling in red glasses

Shelley Kappel, “Retreat Mama”

If you’ve attended a retreat at BCRC, you may already know Shelley’s warmth. As our Retreat Mama, she coordinates the details that make a stay feel like home: cozy accommodations, carefully prepared meals, welcome gifts and the small touches that help guests feel cared for. And yes, she really does iron the sheets.

After three professions and a long retirement, Shelley found a new calling in looking after the BCRC heart family. Her view is that when people feel safe, comfortable and cared for, they have more room for the inner work that brought them here. As she puts it, it’s less like work and more like “play in disguise.”
